Thanks to No Stranger for highlighting the #1 problem with this advert. That guy makes me want to punch my own brains out. I hope he follows the creators of said advert around for the rest of the days, endlessly repeating a string of annoying-sounding synonyms for money that nobody sane uses anymore.

The reason why the punk is annoying shouldn’t be about his effeminate-ness (sic) as he is actually gay and some gay guys just happen to be effeminate. I take umbrage at your implied homophobia. However, I do agree that the advert is highly annoying, but mainly because it is so utterly badly acted and the male cast are about as attractive as a paper plate. I know the punk and that is how he dresses and appears in real life, sadly. And yes, he is gay because I am gay myself and I have seen him at some of the pubs and gay clubs I hang out in. Unfortunately “fame” (or is it infamy?) has gone to his head. He struts around with his gap-toothed smiling waving at everyone as if we are all in awe of his television appearance. It’s laughable, but also sad.

The main point that I am making is that it would be better for the environment if the new phones were not made in the first place and then there would not be a need to recycle these working phones. Phone manufacturers are in a continual process of making new phones in which the newest model is marginally faster or slightly better than the previous model. This advert perpetuates these values. I understand that this is how it is and that I cannot change that but it doesn’t negate the point.
Talking about the pros and cons of how phones get recycled is getting off the topic. The Envirofone advert is just annoying and has suspicious green credentials in my opinion but it is just my opinion. I would have my work cut out trying to convince someone that has a site about mobile phone recycling and is themselves making money from the Adsense advertising.
I do agree though that it is not just mobile phones where this attitude is commonplace.

Yes I can see what you are saying and I am agreed on that also but no it’s not more enviromentaly friendly to not recycle mobile phones. They will end up in the trash eventually. There’s a massive market now for recycling mobile phones set up because not only can it make people money in that way but also save money and use less resources and energy and charities benefit too as proceeds earned from mobiles sold are donated to charities. That wasn’t seen coming and is a good thing because of mobile phone recycling. In all good argument but I think the good points far out weigh any of the bad. For arguments sake. I mention this on mobiles2recycle.com because it’s not just mobile phones that are in question.

It is true that people will want to update their phones and so they have old phones lying around but if you look at the price paid for these old phones on such sites, they are almost worthless. If you are recycling a phone that is sooo last year, then I would say that probably isn’t environmentally sound.
There is also the question of what happens to these recycled telephone after they have been used by there second users in third-world countries. They may end up in landfill or worse, recycled to extract precious metals, but with no legislation to prevent toxic materials or chemicals causing harm to the surrounding land or people that work doing this, one might say that it probably less damaging leaving your phone in a draw.
These companies are making a tidy profit from selling phones to a second market but there is really not much environmental concern. It is a good example of eco-bling where companies talk about being green but it is really another marketing gimmick.
