Air Freshener Ad, Glade Pebble Advert

Glade Pebble Air Freshener Advert

Glade have a bad track record when it comes to adverts. They are the ones that made the almost universally hated ad in which a spoilt brat announces to his mother, “I want to do a poo a Paul’s!” Well done, both disgusting and annoying at the same time. Creators also of the loveless couple who know each others habits so well that the women predicts exactly where to place her air freshener and also how her stupid husband will huff and chuck his stinking sports kit on the chair.

Now they have another in their series of tedious adverts which is set in a boring suburban scene where a group of women are looking at a collection of pebbles that one of the twee, idiot women has collected from every single one of  her holidays. “Where’s this one from”, one women exclaims with interest.

“Oh, that’s from Greece.”

“And this one?”

“That’s from France”

“How about this one?”

That’s an air freshener.” and they fall about  laughing at their mistake because it looks like a pebble, you see, and she mistakes it for a pebble in the collection. Ah, how we laughed.

  • What gets me is the laughably in-your-face, women-should-stay-at-home-and-clean-and-discuss-cleaning-products mantra, that this and all the other ‘household’ adverts echo.

Sometimes I swear we haven’t moved an inch forward from the ’50s.

  • Saw this advert on channel 5 tonight (4 July 2010)

I haven’t luaghed so much at a bad advert in years. Truly diabolical.

  • Who cares. The advert is light hearted enough, the house is clean and presentable, which is important, and the women are friendly.well done Glade.

  • If you like this advert so much, then why don’t you visit It is not a matter for debate.

  • Why not debate it? An advert that presents women as women should be,displaying their gentle, almost playful, inquisitive selves, enjoying each others company in a pleasant environment. An environment i should add, that we know smells nice.

  • The whole premiss of the site is that these are bad adverts. It may a personal opinion but this is not a democracy. If I say it is a bad advert then it is. However, I can justify my opinion by saying it is a very jaded view of modern women which, even if it fits with their demographic, says that women are simpering idiots that have nothing better to do with their time that look at pebbles and laugh at air freshener.

  • Point taken.Your entitled to your opinion,of course, although i must say it is a little aggressive.Exactly what elevated cerebral state do you consider satisfactory among women before they are accepted as more than just simpering idiots? The advert merely represented a light hearted and relaxed environment, where an attractive air freshener was mistaken for a genuine pebble. It didn’t seek to expose a failure to detect the real thing under exam conditions according to gender. And as for having nothing better to do,well, they hardly looked like layabouts did they?

  • Why don’t you go and laugh at air fresheners. See how you like it, alan.

  • But in my case it WOULD be silly, because of course I already know what it is.Did you all miss the point? It actually looks like a real pebble! Ahh,bless.

  • What is it about these things? Why do people think they need them? Is it from letting their dogs loll about all over their furniture – so, copying the equally terrible ‘furniture warehouse’ type ads? I really don’t understand, I REALLY don’t want to!

  • Steve old chum, its a necessity,a time honoured one at that. That we choose to offer it up in a pleasant environment,at the hands of pleasant women is,of course,an obvious conditional.Air fresheners that smell of big jobs, sold by football hooligans in front of flickering porn barely does the trick.Wouldn’t you rather sit with attractive fun loving girls than these shallow, emotionally injured types. No one likes a bad smell. Not such a bad advert.
